“Does a regional fintech thesis actually hold up once you get specific about one country?”

Flood Finance
Advisor, Ghana market · Ghana market pilot
Advised on the Ghana-specific opportunity for a fintech merchant and mobile-money model, including a Telecel-related opportunity.
Context
This work was scoped specifically to Ghana, not a broader Africa expansion — merchant ecosystems, mobile money infrastructure and distribution partnerships needed local, market-specific design.
Action
- Advised on the commercial model for a mobile-money-linked merchant ecosystem in Ghana.
- Contributed to pilot design, merchant-acquisition approach and partnership strategy, including exploration of a Telecel-related opportunity.
Result
- Roughly 6,000 merchants signed to the Ghana pilot.
- Launched a consumer cash-back mechanism new to the Ghanaian market.
- The product is live in Ghana today — the work went past advice into a running business.
Lesson
A market thesis that works regionally still has to be re-validated at the country level before you commit.
The public record
There is no public record of this work, and that is the honest answer rather than a gap to paper over: it was an early-stage pilot with no press cycle attached. Every figure here is as supplied. What is independently checkable is the market it was built on — Ghana's mobile-money rails, which the Bank of Ghana reports on monthly.
