“How do you know customers actually want it before you spend on distribution?”

Heptagon Square

Founder · 9 campaigns

Founded a crowdfunding launch studio that ran 9 campaigns with a 100% success rate, raising roughly US$3.6M.

Context

Before spending on distribution and inventory, hardware and consumer-tech products need proof that real customers will pay for them. A crowdfunding launch is that proof made unavoidable: the campaign has to convert strangers into paying backers on Indiegogo or Kickstarter before a single unit is manufactured.

Action

  • Designed and ran crowdfunding campaigns for products including LocoMogo, Travis the Translator and Luft Qi.
  • Built positioning, storytelling and conversion strategy for each campaign as a demand-validation exercise, not just a fundraising event.
  • Established product-market fit before scaling spend — once a campaign proved it converted, paid acquisition through Facebook and Google could be pushed hard against a known return rather than a hoped-for one.
  • Ran PR agencies to place products with media outlets, and brought in partners alongside the paid and earned channels.
  • Ran each campaign end to end rather than consulting on it — prototypes, campaign creative, landing pages and campaign management.

Result

  • 9 campaigns launched, 9 successful (100% success rate).
  • Roughly US$3.6M raised in aggregate.
  • Three of the nine are documented publicly: Travis the Translator raised US$650,606 on Indiegogo at 779% of its goal, LoCoMoGo €116,218 on Kickstarter from 621 backers, and Luft Qi US$215K–US$300K across several campaigns.

Lesson

Before investing heavily in distribution, prove that customers actually care.

The public record

LoCoMoGo Train — Kickstarter campaign film

Best Crowdfunding Projects by Jellop

The campaign film itself: a 90-second argument that a screenless toy train can teach a four-year-old code logic. €116,218 from 621 backers followed.

LUFT Cube — Indiegogo campaign film

LUFTQI

A filter-free air purifier is a hard sell precisely because it has no filter to show. The film leads on the problem, not the technology.

Travis Touch hands-on review

MrMobile [Michael Fisher]

Independent press, not campaign material — a reviewer with a large audience putting the device through real use. Earned coverage like this is what the PR half of a campaign is buying.

Three of the nine campaigns are documented publicly and are linked above; they sum to roughly US$1–1.4M of the US$3.6M aggregate, with the remaining six unnamed here. The arithmetic is meant to be visibly a subset, not a contradiction.
